INLN, the International Numismatic Libraries’ Network, was officially inaugurated on September 2nd 2009, during the XIVth International Numismatic Congress in Glasgow.
Members are librarians and information ‘caretakers’ of numismatic institutes worldwide. These institutions are sometimes independent museums, but more often departments of larger museums, central banks or universities. Most numismatic organizations have scientific libraries with specific collections and documentation material on all aspects of money: coins, medals, banknotes, money production equipment, but also on banking history and social or psychological aspects of money. The libraries range from very small to pretty large, but are usually understaffed and have hardly any budget to develop their collections. It is important to make the unique collections visible and accessible, not only for the internal researchers, but also for the interested numismatists worldwide.
Collaboration and exchange of information, experiences and professional knowledge are aims of the network. We like to work together in order to create a platform for numismatic researchers and others interested in the world of money.
The network starts with 26 members, but any numismatic library can join. Please contact Ans ter Woerds [1] or Elizabeth Hahn [2] for more information.
