The Numismatic Collection is one of the largest collections of its kind with around 500,000 objects. The collection owes its international renown to its rich diversity as well as the comprehensiveness of its coin series which range from the beginnings of coinage in the seventh century BC in Asia Minor to the coins and medals of the twenty-first century.

Germany: Stiftung Historische Museen Hamburg, Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte

The Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte is located in an impressive building, built by the famous Hamburg architect Fritz Schumacher between 1914 and 1922, when the museum was opened. It was built on the spot of the Bastion Henricus, which was built as part of the former fortifications, founded by the Dutch Jan van Valckenborgh between 1616 and 1625 to make the city unassailable.  The Hamburgmuseum offers a broad overview of the varied history of the city of Hamburg from 800 AD until now.

Germany: Westfälisches Landesmuseum Münster, Münzkabinett

The numismatic collection of the Landesmuseum (LWL = Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe)  is not of royal provenance, but rather traces its roots back to the first half of the 19th century and to patriotic interest in the history of Westphalia and neighbouring regions. Among the earliest priorities of the Westphalian Association for Patriotic History and Antiquity, founded in 1824, was the collection of antique artefacts, in particular of coins.

The Numismatic Museum is one of the oldest public museums in Greece. It was established in 1834. The Numismatic Museum owns 500.000 acquisitions, mostly coins as well as medals, lead bullae, gems, weights, obeloi and talents, dated from the 14th century BC until today.

Hungary: Hungarian National Museum, Cabinet of Coins and Medals, Budapest

The Coins Repository of the Hungarian National Museum was established in 1802. The base of the collection is the private collection of count István Széchenyi, also the founder of the museum, consisting of 2000 Hungarian and Bohemian coins.

Italy: Biblioteca Archeologica e Numismatica, Comune di Milano

Fondata nel 1808, è l’erede delle rare collezioni librarie e archivistiche del Gabinetto Numismatico di Brera (1808-1917) e del Museo Patrio di Archeologia (1863-1903). Dal 1 gennaio 2003 la Biblioteca è organizzata come Servizio autonomo rispetto alle Civiche Raccolte Archeologiche e Numismatiche.
