Romania: Romanian Academy, Numismatic Department, Bucharest

The Romanian Academy is Romania’s highest cultural forum and has several objectives: cultivation of the national language and literature, study of the national history, research into major scientific domains, and promotion of democratic and ethical principles of free communication of ideas in Romanian sciences, arts and letters.

Switzerland: Schweizerisches Landesmuseum Zürich

In the 19th century Switzerland became a confederation and in this young nation the thought of establishing a national museum came up. The 25 cantons had their own cabinets and collections, which reflected the federalistic character of the young state. A motion in 1883 started the real discussion for a national museum, but only in 1891 the decision was made that Zürich should be the city to house the museum.

Switzerland: Münzkabinett Winterthur

The foundation of the city library in 1660 was also the start of the coin collection of the present Coin Cabinet in Winterthur.  Since 1861 there was a real Coin Cabinet, within the library still, but run by a curator. In 1982 the Cabinet became an independent museum of the city of Winterthur.

Netherlands, the: Teylers Museum, Numismatic Cabinet, Haarlem

Teylers Museum in Haarlem is the Netherlands’ first and therefore oldest museum, open to the public since 1784. Unique to this museum is the historical presentation of its collections, largely unchanged since the late 18th and 19th centuries.

Netherlands, the: Geldmuseum, Utrecht

On February 14, 2004, three Dutch numismatic organizations merged and the realization of one national numismatic, monetary historical and money behavioural museum and research institute was a fact: the Geldmuseum (Money Museum) in Utrecht was born.

Italy: Museo Bottacin, Padova

Il Museo si trova in Palazzo Zuckermann, edificio realizzato negli anni ’10 del Novecente e che ospita anche il Museo di Arti Applicate. La collezione Bottacin è allestita al secondo piano del Palazzo e comprende la raccolta di opere d’arte e quella numismatica che il ricco mercante Nicola Bottacin accumulò nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento.
