This website is aimed to establish a major digital archive and portal for numismatic books and papers on coins, medals, seals, engraved gems and otherwise related subjects, which can be consulted online.

Germany: Geldmuseum, Frankfurt am Main

The numismatic library, which is universal in its chronological and geographical scope, is open to all interested parties. Its collection contains works from as long ago as the 16th century and comprises approximately 12,000 volumes.

Germany: Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Coin Cabinet, Nuremberg

The Coin Cabinet of the German National Museum could not build upon an old royal collection, like most important coin collections did. It only started collecting after the foundation of the museum in 1852. In the beginning the collection developed in a rather disorderly way, and there was a limit to the eras from which coins were collected. Around 1870 the Cabinet started collecting contemporary coins and medals. However, the regional boundary was kept, like for all collections in the museum.

Germany: Westfälisches Landesmuseum Münster, Münzkabinett

The numismatic collection of the Landesmuseum (LWL = Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe)  is not of royal provenance, but rather traces its roots back to the first half of the 19th century and to patriotic interest in the history of Westphalia and neighbouring regions. Among the earliest priorities of the Westphalian Association for Patriotic History and Antiquity, founded in 1824, was the collection of antique artefacts, in particular of coins.

United Kingdom: Heberden Coin Room, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

The Heberden Coin Room houses a systematic and comprehensive collection of some three hundred thousand coins and medals. It has an academic staff of seven and is a leading international centre for teaching and reseach in numismatics and monetary history.

Greece: Numismatic Museum, Athens

The Numismatic Museum is one of the oldest public museums in Greece. It was established in 1834. The Numismatic Museum owns 500.000 acquisitions, mostly coins as well as medals, lead bullae, gems, weights, obeloi and talents, dated from the 14th century BC until today.
